From all the neighborhoods in Arden Arcade, Sierra Oaks is the most sought after area, with the most expensive homes. The properties sit on a 0.5 to 1+ acre lots. Homes listed for $1M+ are normal and those that go above $2M are no surprise. My favorite street is Crocker Rd. Hopkins and Huntington Rd are very popular as well. In Sierra Oaks, the residents have a neighborhood association, Sierra Oaks Neighborhood Association (SONA). It seems that the association is very involved with bringing neighbors together and ensuring the safety of the residents by contracting with Off Duty Police Officers to patrol the streets on a regular basis. A lot of families choose this area because of two very important schools. One is Sierra Oaks K-8 school and the other one is Sacramento County Day School which is a private school.
When it comes to architecture, you will find Spanish/Mediterranean homes, Mid-Century Modern homes and Ranch Style homes. If you are out there house hunting, it is inevitable that you will hear about Frank "Squeaky" Williams, which was a very famous architect. He designed a lot of homes in the area and in other neighborhoods in Sacramento.
If you take Sierra Oaks and Sierra Oaks Vista and compare it with other cities around Sacramento, you will probably think of Granite Bay. All these areas have flat surfaces where land can easily be built on and large size lots. And of course the price ranges are very similar. One notable difference between Granite Bay and Sierra Oaks is the location. Sierra Oaks is just minutes away from Downtown Sacramento with close access to freeway 50.
